Media Exploration blog: Chakra
First class
21/01/19
Today we had our first class from Jini. She introduced us to the film course. We know now that the subject is going to be: transformation. We are going to make an experimental film in these weeks that we have class. First, we are going to have 2 classes of film history, in which we will talk and discuss the films that we will see in the class as well the view on the filmmaker. This is really interesting because of most of the filmmakers or the films that she showed us today, I have never seen or heard of. So, I am really curious about the other introductions. After those 2 weeks, we are going to start with the 16mm film camera, which I am really looking forward to. Then we are going to start developing the film idea.
Brainstorming
24/01/19
Tanya and I were talking about the transformation subject. So we decided to meet with each other and start brainstorming on some ideas. Transformation is such a big topic and you can go into a lot of directions with it.
I started talking about using the elements and that we can create some kind of music if we want to. As well as that we could use different colours. I talked about using the camera on transforming to different elements, for example when you have water, you can let it transform to the sky or clouds. We could also make the music transform.
we made a list/mindmap of what we came up with. these are just idea’s for now but we can look into it. We don’t have a group yet, so the other people we are going to work with, have to agree on the topic and see how they like it.
Film History 1
28/01/19
Today we had our film history class. it was really interesting because Jini showed us:
- Vasulka from Steina and Woody
- stan Brakhage: Mothlight 1963
Stan Brakhage was really experimenting with film and projection at this time. He put living moths right in front of the class of the projector. So physically on the film. Which creates interesting figures that are changing constantly.
- Le Chien Andalou: Les Grands films classics 1929
which is really interesting because at that time and in this film you see that the woman is fighting back while the film is about the men at that time.
-Dara Birnbaum: wonder woman(978-79)
with this one, it is the technology that is really interesting as well on how they used the special effects at that time.
-tacita dean: film
a film about keeping the film alive. to give you an inside how wonderful it is to work with film and not with digital.
And many more.
Jini talked about the Bill Viola exhibition which we should go to because it is really interesting to see his work.
Brainstorm night
30/01/19
Tonight Tanya and I meet up again to talk about the film ideas and what we have so far. Tanya had some ideas that she was telling me about. But the one idea that stuck was the Chakra idea. She told me that people have 7 chakras with different meanings and different colours. I thought that was a good start to begin our idea with because you can do a lot of experimenting with it. We talked about that we can film the stages of different chakra’s. Then I suggested that even then we can use the elements to portray the different emotions or chakras. I already had some idea’s in my head about how we could film things, like:
- when you have water, which is calming, we can actually film someone falling in the water and our diving behind that person and see the person flow calmly in the water. then without you realizing the water changes to the sky or clouds.
- the other one was that you film the person falling in the water, but when the person hits the water, that is when you come in another dimension.
- when you start with just a lighter in the room and it turns into this big fire.
Just some ideas.
We also discussed with who we probably want to work together, and we asked Shail if he wanted to join our group and told him the idea of what we have so far.
He wanted to join so it is Tanya, Shail and me so far.
introduction 16 mm film
04/02/19
Today we had the introduction to the 16 mm film. It was so good to see and to figure out how we have to use this camera. It sounds really complicated as well. Especially with the aperture. Sara told us a lot and she showed us how to use it. After the introduction, we could try out the 16 mm. How to load it in and how to measure the distance. how to use the light meter. It was really nice to work with it. I took a sound recording so I could listen back to what Sara told us. And I took some example videos on how to use the 16 mm so I can look back at that when I need it or want to. As well with taking notes during the introduction.
Lightning/sound workshop
06/02/19
Jini arranged a lighting and sound workshop for us, so we know what we can do with lights and sound. How we set the lights up and what we can do with around sound.
The sound workshop was really nice, just to see what you can do. Aiden really explained and showed us everything which was really good. He also said that we could go to him if you need anything.
We had the light workshop as well. So you have a 3 light setting if you want to light a person. One general, one from the side which is softer and one from the back so you create shadows. We tried it out and it looked good.
Then we wanted to have daylight. What you do then is a point one of the big lights to the ceiling so it will light the whole room. Then you're going to set your key lights for the persons.
You can use a lot of different objects which look natural to create good lighting. Like a lamp that is hanging from the ceiling. So we tried that as well.
Further, we used the light meter as well so we know what setting we need to have.
Filming with 16 mm
11/02/19
Today we got to use the 16 mm. Because we had the introduction last week, we started off with just a reminder of how we had to put the film roll in the Bolex. We started off with a fake roll, so we couldn’t mess up the original role which was going to be produced at the pinewoods film studios.
After we tested with the fake roll, we were reminded how we needed to put the roll into the camera. So, we put nice and easy the original roll in the Bolex and it went smoothly, which we were happy about.
Then we started setting up lights in the studio. We started off with filling in the form before we were going to shoot. In the meanwhile, we were discussing what we were going to do in this shot and how long it will take.
We looked at the light meter to see if the light was good and the aperture was filled in correctly. Then we started the shoot.
We got a paper from Sara what we had to do and test out. we changed a lot of colour and we also changed the environment, so we could see what would happen outside. Ass well we experimented with double exposer.
When we were done we gave the roll to Sara. Some people would go to Pinewood studio to take the rolls there and we can see how we did it in the next class.
Tanya and I had later that evening a meeting to talk about ideas for the theme transformation. We just talked and what came in our minds is what we also said to each other. Because we were talking to each other, we could help to develop the idea's and think further with it.
We wrote down the idea's that we think is the best for the theme transformation and what we both thought was a good idea.
Film Theory 2
18/02/19
We had another theory lesson from Jini. She showed us experimental films so we could see how they set up the display of the films. It was a reminder for us to think about the following:
- who is the audience?
-How do you want to display the film?
- what kind of experience do you want to give the audience?
These questions are important for the set up of the film.
We also talked about what the films are saying and how the colour is in the films. I have everything written down in my notes.
After the lecture, We made our group. so in our group we have:
Tanya, Shail, Aryan, Tom, Joseph and me.
We met to discuss already some idea's that we have for the film and the idea Shakra. We started talking about how we wanted to have the film going. We came up with reversing some parts of the film or the end of the film.
We talked about meditation, that we don't see much people do it. Especially here in western cultures. You notice that that is a difference in the cultures. We were thinking if we could do something with that?
We searched up the colours of the chakra's, which are:
Red -> Orange -> Yellow -> Green -> Blue -> Indigo -> Violet
Tanya knows the most about chakra's, so she told us that in the stages of chakra there can be a lot of struggling to get to the different stages or even when you want to start with going into the first chakra. It is difficult to clear your mind when you start.
We also talked about maybe using the colours to tell the story or using symbolism in an abstract way.
We came to the conclusion that we needed to do more research about chakra's to see what we come up with and we know what we are talking about. Because you need to understand it, to be able to talk about it.
We made a group chat so we can plan when we will meet and everything.
Research Chakra
20/02/19
I did research on Chakra's today. To figure out what I could find.
I found the colours and the names of the chakras. As well what they mean and what they do.
After I found that, I wrote down my idea's with the colours. Already based on what we had discussed before. Of what we wrote down. I tried to find even more underlying thoughts of the chakra's, but I just ended up with the same thing over and over again. So that was a shame. But I found something and I came up with some idea's which I will tell to the others when we are meeting again.
I also researched some video's online about chakra, and that was really helpfull. They talked about the stages. And how the energy comes and flows in the body. Which is really interesting.
here is a link to the video I found:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ccEfmVRUYKg
After I researched I met with Tanya to discuss the research, as well to do meditation together, because I didn't know how to do it. It was nice, it just took a while to get into the meditation because I wasn't used to it. You hear all these noises and movements. Which is weird and your thoughts go everywhere. My thoughts went to a funny moment in my life, which didn't help because just thinking about it, I started to laugh. And I got Tanya out of her concentration as well. So it was funny and now I got why it can be struggling to get into meditation.
BFI film festival + meeting
21/02/19
Tanya and I had booked tickets for the BFI Film Festival. We thought that would be a good way to meet people, but also to see what kind of films they have, so we can get some inspiration from it. As well with the talks. We hoped we could get some good tips on how to do things and how to approach the film idea.
We had first a masterclass of the film: The Business of film.
It was really interesting because they told us a lot. I wrote a lot in this class in my notebook.
After that class we had the class:
The Hot Spot: Huw Samuel
He is his own filmmaker who started really small and grew bigger. He had some good tips and he told is experience how he got where he is now. Which was really nice to hear.
After that, we had our class of:
My first day on set.
It was a really good class because they explained what you have to do and what you should wear. Technically you have to show them that they want to work with you and that you are the person for the job.
Of course, you need to start small and build from there. And you need to make connections. Because people will recommend you to other people. Which is what you want.
Then we had a break and we went to watch some of the short movies. Some were really good and really interesting. And it was actually really good to see what other people made and how they made the movies.
Then we had the award ceremony and after that, we had a networking event. Unfortunately, Tanya and I couldn't stay that long, because we had our own meeting with the group. I also took a picture of the partners with whom they worked, because that could be good companies to work with later on.
We had our meeting in Covent Garden. So we were meeting at the tube station there. We went to a bar there and we started discussing what everyone had found so far. Once we knew what everyone had found, we talked about what we want to do with the film. We came up with using symbols instead of narratives. Also that the film is going to be more a dreamy/spiritual way. Which suites by our topic chakra.
We ended up talking about the colours again and using landscapes to portray that. As well with using water, ink and paper what we could use.
We came up with having a person in the movie, but we cannot see who that person is. It is more a journey of the person.
These are all idea's of what we came up with. We already have an idea of the first 3 scenes, but it is still too much and we need to narrow it down to what we really want. So we are going to have soon another meeting to talk about that and so everyone can see what everyone interest goes too and what we can come up with for a story idea.
We thought it was a good idea to meet in a bar outside of London, but it wasn't ideal because there was too much music around us and to much noise. We got things done so that is good. But our next meeting is going to be a more suited place.
Meeting Jini
25/02/19
We had another class with Jini today and we were talking about how far everyone was with the story and the production. She talked about that we had to start making planning and really have to come up with a story by narrowing it down. Because our idea is too broad to come up with a real idea and story. So, I made big outlined planning during the class, just to see what we have coming up with deadlines and holiday.
After we all talked about how far we are, Jini showed us examples of installations. We need to start thinking about how we are setting up the movie. So, is it going to be an installation or is it going to be a single screen, multi-screen? That is what we have to discuss together.
She also showed us some really good green screen effect video of Isaac Julien. So that gives us some ideas of what we could do with the green screen if we are going to work on that.
After the lecture, we had a meeting to talk about the things that Jini had said.
We started to list every theme that we had so far. Once we knew what themes we had, we looked at them and decided which one we would like to have in our movie and which we wouldn't do.
Once we did that we looked at how we wanted to portray the colours. So, what we wanted to test and what not as well for the movie.
We also got the nature, so what are we going to use to portray nature. We came up with elements and landscape to portray nature.
Then we talked about the beginning of the scene. We came up with starting with a black screen, where different coloured smoke bombs would appear and a person/figure would come out of it and it transforms into the person/figure walking in a landscape.
We also agreed that we have to start testing with the colours. So on Saterday, we are going to book the room Ag07 so we can experiment.
I made a list what we needed to do for saterday and what we needed to get. So we don't forget anything and we have everything.
Than i said that for tomorrows meeting we need to talk about:
- what theme we want to use with what color of chakra
-moodboard with every color
-roles?
-display?
We ended up walking about the display already, because Tanya had been tinking about it. We were discussing about a multi screen film or an single screen film.
In the end of what we had so far, most of us thought a 7 screen installation would be the best. Because we have 7 different chakra's, so it would suite the film.
Then i made a list for myself what we need to do before saterday:
- get the material
- get the film equipment on friday
- book room + fill in the assesment for it
- Start finding locations.
Meeting/breakdown
26/02/19
We met at the coffee shop at the beginning of the campus. Because it was such good weather outside, we decided to go and sit outside on the picknick table.
There we started talking about the breakdown. So what we want to do.
We came with a big outline of how the movie is going to look like.
which is:
black -> flickering -> fire/landscape -> water -> earth -> air -> white
There is going to be a person in the movie but the person is not recognizable.
We also still need to think about who is going to see it?
So the roles we have on set are for now:
Aryan: Assistant director/ production design
Tanya: Director
Tom: Dop
Joseph: Assistant Camera/ Actor
Shail: Editor/ Gaffer/ Drone
Suzanne: Producer/ Sound
For the pre-production:
Tom and Aryan -> Locations
And Tom is going to be the co-producer.
For locations we need:
-forest
- beach
-water
- mountains
Drive
27/02/19
I made a google account for the chakra group, so we can have an email and also have a different drive, where we can put everything in.
In the drive, I made all sorts of folders, so it is easier to find everything and it is more organized for everyone to find everything when they have to.
I already had declaration forms, but they were not good, because it was still in dutch and with different codes and different tax codes. So I had to change it with all of the declaration codes. Which was a challenge because I had to change some codes for it as well. But I got it done. The only thing I couldn't change was the euro sign and the pound sign because I don't have a pound sign on my computer.
Here is a link to the drive:

Meeting for Saterday
28/02/19
I made a list for what I had to have and how much it maybe is going to cost for Saturday. Because I needed to get it today. I started with researching where I could get what and how much it is going to cost. Once I founded that I needed to know what the paint colours had to be. Because Tanya didn't really know, I asked if she had time to come with me otherwise because that was easier then guessing what she wants.
Luckily she could come with me because it was Thursday the shops are open longer so we agreed to go around 6 pm.
After I did that I went to the 3D workshop to get the magnetic powder. They had it luckily.
Then I went with Tanya to Harrow. We bought 2 bowls, paint, ink, bath bombs and hairspray.
Once we were back I realized I forgot the magnet, so I texted Aryan to ask if he could get it, as well to collect the equipment and put it in Ag07, because Tanya, Tom and me had tomorrow during the day the exhibition for photography, so we were going to be back around 5 pm. Everything is closed then. Aryan would do it, so that was a release.
Bill Viola
01/03/19
Today we have seen the Bill Viola exhibition. It was so good and beautiful. Tanya has been there before already, and she told me I would love it. It was so good how the persons in the water are rising and falling in slow motion. As well as the delivery that you could see. I was sitting there watching the delivery and seeing a person die while someone is floating in the water in the middle.
Just the whole exhibition was so good and it reflected in our film in a way as well. So it was really great that I saw it finally.
final meeting for saturday
01/03/19
Except for Tom, everyone was at the meeting today, which was good, so we could talk good about Saturday.
We went over what the planning was on what we wanted to experiment tomorrow. So we just want to try different thing in water to see how that will turn out to be.
Then we started talking about the storyline again because Tanya had some kind of storyboard ready for us. She draws it out for us and we told her what we thought of it. Most of it was really nice. We just thought with the person still if we should do that or not. As well as how it will look on the 7 screens.
At one point we started to get to the point where everyone was coming up with idea's and different things what we could add or use, so I told everyone to stop talking and stay on track because we were going right to the beginning again. Which everyone agreed on. What we were discussing was if we should use a person or that we should use a cloth or rope to guide the story? That was our main discussion about.
After that, I made plans for the upcoming weeks and also for Saturday. Everyone should be at Ag07 at 10:30, so we could set everything up.
Experiments
02/03/19
We are going to do our experiments today. When I arrived at 10:30 with all the stuff and the key to the room, only Tom was there. So we went into the room and I texted everyone where they are. Some overslept and Shail already told us he was going to be later. Joseph had a family emergency so he couldn't come that day anymore.
Tom and I started to set everything up, so when the others would come we could start right away.
Once we had all the lights and camera set up, I made my little production corner, so I could work on the administration and change some more things for the declaration form. I also needed to work out the planning more, so that is what I did as well and put it in the drive.
Aryan and I looked into locations and we found some good once, we put it in the drive so we can look at it later and discuss what the best options would be as well what Tanya would think of them.
The shoot went well once everyone was here. We got a lot of interesting images and shots were done, which we were really happy about.
Meeting Jini
04/03/19
Today we had class again and we watched some really nice scenes of films. After every movie, we discussed what we thought of the film. I wrote it down in my notes, so I can look back at them and also to see what I think is interesting or not.
Then we met with all of us before the tutorial. We talked about what we wanted to have in the shot. That was something Tanya needed to think about and see if it will fit in the movie with her vision to it. Tanya also wanted to see what we could do with the microscope. So we had to get an induction for it before we could use the microscope. I emailed John Smith if we could get an induction this week, but unfortunately, he wasn't available. So we are going to have an induction next week.
We agreed to the screen, which is going to be one big screen in the middle and on the two side screens we are going to have 3 smaller screens on it. We draw it out on my notes.
The tutorial was good. Jini liked our idea, the only concern she had was that we have to deal with English weather. So all the sunny and blue sky shots are going to be a challenge. As well with the landscapes that Tanya wants is going to be a challenge. As well the person in the story. How are we going to portray the person and what does the person tell and portray to the viewers. So we had to think about that.
She wants to have green forests, which is possible but not now at the beginning of March. So we had to see if we could film that as late as possible so that the forests will become greener.
The yellow flowers (field) was going to be a challenge because some flowers are out now already, but maybe later in the month, the yellow flowers will be death. So we needed to research about that.
And the beach and the blue sky is just really weather depending, so we had to keep an eye on the weather forecast.
So, Aryan, Josephe and me were going to look at possible locations, where we can go to which is not to far away. Because if we want to rent a car, we need to take that into account as well.
Further she thought everything was under controle so she was happy, which was possitive and good to hear.
Production
06/03/19
I went over everything that we need to look at because we really need to get started getting the locations, as well as going over the budget and everything.
I looked at the locations that Aryan found so far. I knew that we probably have to travel for it. But the closer to school, the better. So I had to look at that with Aryan together.
Joseph sent as well a location called Durdle door. It looks really beautiful and it wasn't that far away. So, I need to look at that.
As well with the budget, I was thinking 50 Pounds max pp, Because no one wants to spend too much or anything.
I did a little bit of research to a car, But so far I couldn't really tell yet how much it would cost, because we need to know the exact location for the mileage.
Production meeting
07/03/19
Aryan and I were meeting today about the locations and the budget, as well to talk about the car.
We looked through a couple of locations, which we put in the drive Because we felt like these would be good at the time that we would start filming. We put how long it is driving with it as well, so it is easier to calculate everything later. We sent it to Tanya, so she could look at it.
We had a discussion about doing location scouting or not. I thought it would be good to do because you never know how it looks like. But Aryan thought it wasn't that necessary, so we didn't agree or disagree on anything yet, but we needed to ask the others what they thought.
We also agreed that the filming needs to happen at the end of March, maybe the beginning of April. So we looked at the weather for what we could see and it was really changing the weather. So we really needed to look at that.
We also looked at the car, what the best options are to choose for. But it would be pretty expensive if we would hire at a car rental company. So I said that there are private rental sites as well, but I don't know which ones they are. We would look for it later when we meet again.
We had to go, because Aryan and me needed to do some other stuff still as well.
Portsmouth
09/03/19
I went to visit a friend in Portsmouth today. While I was there I was looking for possible locations, especially the beach part. They were nice, but I wasn't sure about it. I took some pictures and video's So I could show it to the rest. But Portsmouth is a beautiful place either way, so that was nice.
Meeting Jini
11/03/19
So today we had a class from Jini again. Almost everyone was here except for Joseph, He couldn't come because he didn't have money to travel.
The class was good. We watched some films again which were really interesting and we discussed them as well with the whole class.
Then we had our meeting before the tutorial again. This is were Tanya was telling us about a person dancing on the screen under a cloth. The person portrays the rising energy of the chakras. As well that the person isn't going to be visible but just a shadow kind of person. We would record it in the green screen room, so we can change the background and put the person in the scenes. The person will dance in the landscape as well. We all liked the idea and we could tell it to Jini.
Tanya also talked with Helena about the dance piece and that we somehow need to find those, but Helena maybe has people whom she knew and can dance. So she could ask them. I was going to ask Helena as well for that.
We also talked about the sound. I needed to start doing some more research but I figured out that the Sound should be calming and rising. But I have to sit with Tanya to talk about that. And to get an idea. We also discussed with the group that it would be good to get nature sounds in it, so we are definitely going to record on the locations the sounds as well.
We met with Jini and talked about all of this. She said that for the dance piece we need to figure out how we are going to do that and to see how that works with the nature part. And she was a little concerned about the communication because Joseph wasn't there because of the money and just, in general, being late. But even though that was maybe a thing she was still positive about what we had so far and that we will get there.
Meeting/microscoop workshop
12/03/19
So Joseph wasn't at the meeting because he couldn't afford to come still. all the others where there.
We had a meeting today to see what needs to happen.
So I need to go behind Helena, to ask about the dancers. As well in finding other options if that is not going to happen. For now, we need to test the green screen room. So I had to order a blue suit for in the green screen room, as well as book the green screen room.
Joseph wasn't there but he volunteered to be the actor. So we asked if he wanted to be in the blue suit just for testing on Monday. And he was fine with that. Which was great.
We also talked about the budget, and everyone was like, 50-pound pp is good if we spend that, but that is everything. I also said that we could ask Jini about money or something and if uni has cars or not?
So I emailed Ed about the green screen room and Jini about the money for funding and car.
The green screen room was booked and unfortunately, Jini told that there wasn't any funding and uni doesn't have cars. So we knew that now and we could work on that.
After the meeting, we had a microscope workshop. Only Tanya, Tom and I could be there because others couldn't come or forgot and got other stuff to do which was a shame. But the induction was really good. Chris explained how to use the microscope and showed us what we could do with it. As well as how the camera needs to be attached to the microscope. We also got a good idea now what we could do and use the microscope for.
Production
13/03/19
Today I worked on the location and how much a car would be.
So, first of all, I looked at all the car sites as well as the private rental once, because they are cheaper most of the time. The only thing is that I have the drivers license and I am 22, which is just to young for most websites, so that would mean we had to pay more for young drivers. That is going to cost us a lot then. So I found the drivey site where you have to be 21 years and older to rent a car and can be from The Netherlands. That was really good.
Drivey is a private rental site, where people can rent out their car to people for a cheap price. I was looking for a 7 seater car. We are with 6 persons and we needed to have room for the equipment.
I found a car which was just 32 pounds per day. This was perfect. We had 100 miles included.
So i started to calculate how much we needed to drive if we would go this route:
Harrow -> Stone henge -> Cranborne Chase -> Lulworth Cove.
So i calculated it as a roundtrip and i came out on 275 miles. I put another 50 miles in it for if we drive wrong or we still had to drive some small areas and rounded it up to 350 miles. If it is less the better of course.
So it was 0.18 pounds per mile.
The first 100 miles was free and i am calculating for one day now.
So it is 250 miles × 0.18 = 45 pounds +32 pounds = 77 pounds, for a day. Which is not bad at all.
breakdown meeting
14/03/19
Today we had our breakdown meeting. Joseph still couldn't be their due to financial problems and Tom told us that day that he couldn't come because he had an appointment. So it was just Tanya, Shail, Aryan and me.
We put the Laptop in the middle of the table because the tv screen didn't work at that table. Which was a shame, But we put on the storyboard so we could go scene by scene what we need for it?
I wrote it down on my notes and sended that to the group chat of us. As well what Tom still needs to do.
So what we talked about with every scene is:
- what equipment
- material
- safety
-what kind of landscape if applicable.
We also talked about going on location scout this weekend with Aryan, Tanya, Tom and me. I posted that on the group chat and everyone was okay with that. Even Shail said he could come as well, so he is coming as well. So we could see the locations that we found around London which are:
-Hampstead Heat
- Bentley prior open space
- ruislip
- stanmore county park
- colne valley regional park.
I just had to see what route is the best to go with, if we take the transportation.
Shail also showed us his edited versions of the green guy in forest and fire, also shots of time-laps what we could fo with that and how it looks like, to see if it would work.
planning Location scout
15/03/19
I looked at all the location where they are located and looked at the best planning for it, as well as the cheapest and fastest way.
I ended up with this planning:
Harrow-> ruislip -> Stanmore -> Bentley -> Harrow.
This was the best route for that day and the cheapest one. As well what we need to take and how long it will take for travelling.
I sended it in the group chat.
Location scouting
16/03/19
Today we went for the location scout. We were supposed to meet at 10:00 at the station of the campus or 10:30 at Ruislip station. But Tanya and Aryan were late and Shail already went as well. So i just went ahead so that Shail didn't have to wait alone for a long time. Tom didn't even reply at all to anything, so we assumed that he wouldn't come anymore, which was correct.
When i came to the station, Shail was apparently all the way at the other side of the park ( which is big). Tanya and Aryan were going to that station as well because Shail told them to go there when i was in the tube. So i decided to meet them halfway and started walking to the spot. It was a really nice route that i walked and i am glad i walked that route because otherwise, we wouldn't have to stumble upon the yellow flowers and the nice spots that i had seen.
Once i met with the others we started walking and exploring the areas and the other places. We took a lot of pictures and videos. It was really nice because we had a lot of fun and got a little team bonding haha. The weather was really good as well, so we got lucky with that.
In the end, only Bently prior open space was good enough as far as we could see. We spend the whole day walking around in the cold, climbing over trees, jumping over small rivers, sliding away in the mud, falling down and going through bushes. But we got to see all of them and it was a lot of fun. Everyone was really tired at the end though haha. We decided to go and eat maggie after the location scout because we deserved it haha.
Meeting/location scout 2
18/03/19
So everyone, except Joseph was at the meeting today. We didn't have class so we could work on the production today.
I went to the library to research about the cloth. I sended all the pictures and different fabric to Tanya. She looked at them but she wasn't sure about the fabric. I did some research which fabric would be good for the person under the cloth. But we thought silk would be good, only that is expensive. I looked at some sites to figure out what would be a good alternative. That was Polyester chiffon. I found a site that sells it really cheap, it was just that we weren't sure about it completely. We would look at it at a later point.
Aryan and I also looked at the planning and we agreed that we are going to shoot in the weekend of 01/04. Because we need to start filming otherwise we don't have enough time. We agreed on going to Lulworth cove because that was the best locations. As well that we can look there for forest and fields as well, which should be there at that time. Because we are going to travel we made a small budget plan, to see how much it would cost us. How much we would have to spend. It was a really objective calculation. But at least we had some kind of indication.
We talked about the locations and showed the pictures to everyone. We explained why Bentley was the best to pick for the forest. They were fine with it.
Aryan said then that we also could go to Northwick park of a harrow on the hill to look. So we decided to do a little location scout again. It was really nice and we found some good spots as well.
Green screen experiment
21/03/19
Except for Shail, everyone was there. After a couple of day of rest, i had finally a chance to get the green screen room and the date we could actually start testing it because i got the blue suit that i ordered and the room was available.
Because we decided that Shail is going to be our back up dancer if we cannot find anyone, we wanted him in the blue suite, but he couldn't be there that day. So, Joseph took over.
We tested the dance a little bit and we recorded everything so that we could test it out. Shail would put some background in it to see how it works.
music
22/03/19
Tanya and I talked about the sound. we know we are going to do a surround sound. The sound is going to be nature sounds, but we were talking about seeing if we could do something with a music student. So that the music student would create music for us for the film.
We went to the music department and Shirley Thompson told us to email her with what we want. SO she could send it to her students.
She also recommended us to listen to:
- Arro Port
-Ludovico Einaudi
- John Tavernov
After we went by her, we went to the library to listen to this music and we found the one from Ludovico Einaudi - Una Mattina Full Album between the time: 21:14 - 22: 13-sec beautiful. Also between 56:18 - 1:00:00 Really nice. We could use this as a reference to send in the email to Shirley.
These are some sounds that we found as well:
- august rush soundtrack - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y8i0ywIw9kY
- The Fountain OST [09] - Death is the Road to Awe https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YiUKkdfWq2U&list=PL46CAACA317EB76FC&index=9
- Time - Hans Zimmer (Inception Soundtrack) HQ [1 Hour] - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U5IailIzqdc
- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-speelkU2HY
- https://www.epidemicsound.com/search/?search_query=meditative
I wrote an introduction and a small text for Tanya so that she had an example and just had to adjust it a bit to what she really wants for the sound. Tanya is going to make the email this weekend and then send it to her.
Powerpoint presentation class tomorrow
24/03/19
Because we had a class tomorrow and Jini asked us to show what we have done so far and everything, i made a powerpoint presentation for it. So that the class and Jini has a good visual of what we have so far. I put everything in it, from location to mood board, storyboard, production, sound and edit.
Here is a link to the powerpoint in the drive:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1KJP2KxPfVUMaazhM3pgkdE_kwU56-5Rc/view?usp=sharing
Meeting
25/03/19
So everyone was at the meeting today because this was one of the final meetings before we are going to shoot. So, we were discussing what needed to be done and what we still needed to get.
We first had in the morning our last meeting with Jini. We showed her what we had done so far and where we are at the moment. I told her as well that next week Monday we wouldn't be in class because we are going to film then, which was fine for her.
After the class, we went to the library to do the finishing touches of what we have to do for the shoot. Aryan and I looked at the booking of the car and the hostel for Lulworth Cove. We found a really cheap car and the hostel was really cheap as well.
Because Aryan found a discount code for the car, we only had to pay (with extra insurance) 32 pounds for 2 days, which was really good. Especially because the car is a 7 seater.
The hostel we found was 56 pounds for 1 night and we got 6 beds in a private room. Which was really good because we could put our equipment there without worrying that someone might steal something.
I made a list for what we still need to get for monday before the shoot.
I also emailed the dance society to see if anyone is interrested in dancing for our film. So i hope i get a response from them.
List what to get
28/03/19
I made a list for what we still need to talk about for tomorrow as well what i need to get and do still.
I started to make a list for groceries so that we have an idea. Shail has a 10 per cent discount card for Sainsbury, which is really nice.
I also researched where i can get the cloth from and the fire extinguisher.
last meeting before shooting
29/03/19
Except for Joseph, everyone was at the meeting.
Tanya and Me collected all the equipment today for the shoot and carried it to Ag07 where we left the equipment till Sunday. I also told her that no one had replied yet from the dance society so that we probably just should go with Shail. Which she agreed on. Because the shoot is next Wednesday.
I also went to Aiden to ask if he could explain to me how the sound equipment works for the shoot, which was good because we figured out that something wasn't working right. Aiden then helped us to get good equipment. I now knew how the sound worked which was great.
We went over what we are going to shoot, just to make sure everything is clear.
We also agreed that Monday morning we are going to leave at 5:30 am, so we are before traffic and we have a full day to shoot everything and don't have to hurry. Also so we have enough time to get to Lulworth cove on time for the sunset.
I was going to get groceries with Shail and Aryan in the morning on Sunday. As well as getting all the equipment to my room.
Aryan and I are getting the car on Sunday night so we have it on time and we can put everything in the morning in the car.
So everything was set and i was going to get the materials tomorrow.
Buying the material
30/03/19
I got up in the morning to go and get the Cloth and the Fire extinguisher, but also plastic for in the car, so it doesn't get dirty. I also bought a long lighter for the bon fire, because that is better to light it with.
Pragati ( a friend of mine) went with me to get the material. It was a really good day to get out.
She helped me with the cloth as well. When i was in the store i had to call Tanya and send her video's of how the two different cloths looked like. So she could tell me which one Tanya wanted to have. Finally, we picked one of the cloths.
Then we went to the city to get everything else.
Day before shooting
31/03/19
My day started really early in the morning to get papers, dry branches, dry wood and dry leaves for the bonfire. So it will be easy to light it up.
Then i went home and made a picture of the grocery list and i made a new list for everyone for the trip. So no one would forget anything, as well to get warm clothes with them.
I sended that to the group chat.
Then i went with Shail to the grocery store. We asked Aryan if he could come as well, but he was in central and was on his way back but had a delay. He would come as quick as possible.
Unfortunately, he didn't make it for the groceries, so I and Shail carried it to my room.
We waited there for Tanya and Aryan, so we could get the equipment to my room as well. When we were at school i asked for the car registration. We needed a licence plate for it so i had to do it that night.
When we had everything in my room, we put everything on chargers so everything was loaded the next day.
Then everyone went to their own house and i went to the library to print everything that we need out. So that was:
- Shortlist
- Locations
- addresses
- Negative reports
I and Aryan texted that we should leave around 9 pm to get the car.
When we came to the location for the car, we couldn't find the car in the beginning, so we called the owner and he sended the location where the car was. The car was really nice and big.
When we came back at campus, i went to sign up the car with the licence plate.
After that i saw the text of Josephe and Tom that they where here at the campus and they didn't knew where to go to. We thought they arranged something already, but they didn't. Which was fine, it was just getting to see how and where they would sleep. Luckily Aryan arranged an air matress and the room next to my room( which was empthy) was open somehow. So Josephe slept in my flat and Tom stayed at Aryan's flat. We had our alarms for 4am to get up and it was already 1 am. Everyone went to sleep really fast because we had a long day ahead tomorrow.
First day of shooting
01/04/19
We got up at 4 am to get ready and to pack everything in the car. We all took something down to the car. After that, the guys tried packing the car as efficient as possible, while Tanya, Tom and I were getting the other stuff.
At 6 am we packed and everyone was in the car so we could drive off. Aryan started driving because he had more sleep last night and every other night. So i thought it would be better for him to start. After 2 hours of driving, we came to our first location: Moore Valley.
We parked the car and we looked around first to see what kind of location would be good. We got a map of the information centre as well, which was nice. We got our stuff and walked to the location we found.
While Tanya, Tom and Joseph were setting up the camera, Shail started to set up the drone and Aryan and I set up the sound.
After a couple of shots, Aryan and I went away to record nature sounds, because the drone made quite some noise and the others were talking as well. We walked around the park to record people talking, birds, water and forest. We got some good recordings. It was also a beautiful location.
We had to pay some parking money, but that wasn't that much luck.
Then i drove from Moorse Valley to the hostel which we had booked. The hostel was really nice, but we only could check in at 5 pm. It was now at 3 pm.
We saw that down that street there was a little restaurant. We didn't eat lunch yet, so we decided to eat and drink something there. We also needed to charge some batteries. We could do that there as well what was nice.
We went back to the hostel and they were open now, so we could get our stuff in the room and we had the key and everything so we didn't have to be back at a certain time. Especially because we wanted to do the sunset. We didn't knew how long we would be away.
We drove to Lulworth cove place. There was a big parking space there. We had to pay something for parking as well, but that was not too much either.
We packed all our equipment and started walking to the location. When we got there, it was so beautiful. Everyone was surprised by it. We also got really lucky with the weather, because the sun was shining the whole day and it was pretty warm.
We picked a spot to film the sunset from. Shail wanted to go to the other side of the lagoon, so we have more options and more shots. I decided to go with him and record sound at the same time. Aryan, Tanya, Tom and Joseph stayed at that spot, so they could film there.
I recorded the sound of the sea, the rocks under my feet, the air and when i was up at the other side the sound in the lagoon and the sound of the ocean.
Aryan came to the other side as well at one point to look at how it was at our spot. After an hour that Aryan arrived, we went back to the others because the sun was already set. Plus Tom reminded us that ty was coming as well and we didn't knew how high the water would rise.
We all went back to the car and we went to the hostel so we finally could make some dinner, which we hadn't had yet and it was already 9:30pm.
When we arrived at the hostel everyone was tired. Tanya and Shail started cooking, while i was getting the table ready. We had maggie that night, which was nice. Then we started backing up all the files we had of the shoot from today. Luckily i got my laptop with me, because no one else had one with them.
While everything was backing up we got something to drink and got ready to go to bed as well.
Josephe started with backing up but he was so tired that Shail and me had to take over. At that same time i was looking for a possible location to shoot the bonfire, because we found out that even if we wanted to do it on the beach of lulworth cove, it was so open we couldn't do it secretifly either.
I looked at Durdle Door. I looked how far it was and how late the sunset is. I told everyone that we had to leave at 5:30, so we had to get up at 4:30 again. Because we needed the sunset. Tom, Josephe and Aryan went to sleep already. Tanya, Shail and me waited till the Backing up was done.
It was really late when we went to bed. But it was a good day and we had really beautifull locations.
Shooting day 2
02/04/19
Today we got up really early to catch the sunrise. We left at 5:45 am to get to Durlde door, which was a 10 min ride. When we got there, we had to walk a long path down to reach the beach. It was a 15 min walk. While Tanya, Tom, Joseph and Aryan were busy setting up the camera's at a higher spot, Shail and I went to look for more wood, because i didn't think we had enough. Luckily Shail found some good pieces of wood, which we could use. The weather was today a little worse because it was cloudy and the wind didn't help either.
Shail and I went to the beach and looked for a good spot, which isn't right in the site of people's eyes. Not that there would be people walking there at that time, but you never know. Once we did that, i started to build the campfire. I set everything up and waited for Tom and Josephe to be ready with the camera's before i light it on fire.
Once they were, i was afraid the bonfire wouldn't turn on the first time trying, because the wind didn't help. But luckily it did. So i was really surprised. Tanya was telling Tom what she wanted and Shail was trying to see if he could film with the drone. Unfortunately, the wind was too strong, so the drone couldn't happen. Aryan and I made sure the fire was still good.
When we had all the shots done, we cleaned up the beach and went back to the car because it was already 8 am and we had to get breakfast still. Plus the check-out of the hostel was 10 am.
So we went back and we put everything on charge again. Everyone got a little freshen up. I started to make eggs and toast and put everything on the table what we had. Aryan went to bed for a little bit because he needed to drive still as well. Josephe and Tom were looking back the footage quick. Shail helped us set up the table as well.
Then we went back to Lulworth Cove to film the water shots. We used a go pro to film it under water. Tom sacrificed himself to go into the cold water. We made sure we had towels and everything ready for him when he gets out of the water.
Shail was busy trying to film more water shots with the drone, But right when the drone was flying towards us and a meter in front of Tom, the wind took the drone and it crashed into the sea. Because Tom didn't see what happened and we started yelling to him to get the drone, he thought he needed to get out. There was a really strong current in the sea, so we couldn't see the drone anymore. We didn't know if the drone just sunk or that it got taken by the current. So Tom said he would try to get into the water to dive for the drone and see if he could find it. At the same time, Shail walked by the Beach to see if it will come up there somewhere. Tom couldn't take the cold so he had to get out when he was halfway to his belly. Which i can understand because it was freezing that day.
Josephe said he could try it after that. So Josephe got in, but we didn't knew for sure anymore where the drone exactly hit the water, so we were kinda guessing where it was. So Josephe just dived a little around the area we thought it was. But it was so cold, that after 10 min he needed to get out as well. Thank god we had towels and everything.
I told Tom and Josephe to go to a restaurant to get warm again. We would look here at the beach further, as well we had to watch the equipment and we still had to film. Tanya and I went to a couple whom we saw diving as well, to ask if they wanted to help us. They were really nice and wanted to help us. So the guy went into the water as well for 10 min but we just couldn't find it.
We searched for it for 1/1,5 hours so we decided to move on because we didn't have time to stay that much longer either and we had to film the water shots still, the yellow fields and the grass.
Tom and Josephe came back and they did the shots. They were at a restaurant and had something small for lunch as well because it got late. Tanya, Aryan, Shail and I went to the restaurant as well to get something small to eat. Josephe and Tom joined us 30 min later after they were done the filming.
After that, we went to the yellow fields to start filming that. We did one pretty fast and we were discussing then, that because it had rained the ground isn't good for the blue suit to lay on. So we decided to do that in Northwick park somewhere later this week. Everyone was tired as well.
We drove home which took us 3/3,5 hours with a break. Both Aryan and I had driven back. When we were back at halls around 6/ 6:30 pm We got all the stuff to my room again and everyone went home or went to get something to eat. Aryan and I had to return the car again that night as well. So we said we would eat, clean up a little and then go and return the car.
Tanya and I cleaned the car in the meantime because i didn't want to pay extra because the car is dirty.
Aryan and I returned the car and we had to go to sleep because we were going to shoot the green screen room tomorrow. I told everyone to be there at 11:30.
Green Screen Dance
03/04/19
After our exhausting 2 days of shoot, we had to do this one and then we have a couple of days off to rest. I got up at 9 am to get ready. I had to get the keys to the green screen room at the photography centre. Once i got those, i went back to my room to get the equipment to the room. Then Tanya helped me with carrying the left over groceries to the room as well. We set the groceries op on the table and made the room ready. Tom was on time at 11:30, but Josephe and Shail were a little late. Aryan came almost at the end because he helped Khayat that night with his movie, so he slept through his alarm.
When we were shooting we found out that w lost a lens cap. So i had to order one online again. It was just difficult because i wanted to do the declarations and then ordering the lens cap. Arrange another booking of the green screen for the week after. But we just had a hand to less to do that. So i had to help with the cloth, and at the same time, i was backing all the clips from the shoot of the day before on the 2 hard drives. But i got to order the lens cap in the end and everything was backed up at the end of the day.
The day went pretty good. We shot with the 16 mm some of the shots, but we also were shooting with digital to make sure we had that as a back- up.
Then we looked at what could go back to Hassan already and what not. We are going to shoot next Monday outside the grass scene and Wednesday another green screen room. So we almost needed everything still. We carried everything back to my room again.
Meeting Music Student Tom
05/04/19
Tanya knew a first-year music student Tom. We asked if he maybe wanted to help us with our film, by making music for the film. Tom wanted to help us, which was great. So we had today a meeting with him to talk about what we wanted to have with the music. We also sended the email that we sended to the music department to him, so he has an idea of what we wanted. So we talked a little about what he did and what he had done so far.
So after we were done with the meeting, I exchanged numbers with Tom so i could communicate with him about the sound and how it is going so far with him.
I also emailed Ed, about the room because i finally could talk with Tanya about it. So we said that Ag07 would be perfect, otherwise the portacabin. So Ed emailed back that the Ag07 room is booked. But the portacabin is available. The only thing is that we don't have all the space in there. So Ed said that we could see if we could get the photo studio 7 in the library.
I am going behind that next week.
Gras shoot
08/04/19
Josephe couldn't come today, but everyone else was there. We had a class of Jini today. In the beginning, i mentioned that we had to shoot in the afternoon, so we couldn't stay the whole class.
We went to my room to get the equipment and so Shail could change into the blue suit.
The shoot went good and we got all the shots done. As well the sound recording went well.
Afterwards, i back-up the footage of what we did. And we put all the equipment in my room again.
second last shooting day
10/04/19
The last day!! Josephe couldn't be there, but everyone else was there.
We had some shots left for the dance part and the red cloth. We were going to shoot on 16 mm and digital again.
The shoot went slow today because everyone was tired. I got the keys at 10 at the photography centre again and dragged the equipment there. Tanya helped me as well with that. Because we were supposed to meet at 10:30.
When i asked where everyone was, somewhere coming but were late. Others i had to call awake.
But Tanya and me set everything up. I had to grab some more stuff in my room because we forgot to take it and i had to print some stuff still. In the meantime, everyone had arrived.
The shoot went okay. Because we all were tired, we all were a little irritated at some moments, but we got the shoot done and on time as well.
I had to keep track of the sheets for the 16 mm and time it, and at the same time, i was doing my declarations. As well as helping with the cloth. So it was running around but we got everything on it.
we gave everything back to Hassan after that, because we just needed on camera for the microscoop which we had on Friday. Then we were done.
I also went to the photography centre to book the room for the assignment, which i could do now.
I also went by Ed to talk about the room in porta cabin, we decided to keep that one just in case. I ordered 3 projectors and boxes for the installation.
After that, Tanya and I had something to eat before going to Pinewood studio's for the 16 mm.
We got the last shuttle bus towards there, which we got lucky with. When we got there we got signed and walked to Kodak. There we got a small tour through the development of the 16mm and that was amazing. We even went into the dark room. It was so weird because you couldn't see anything and he knew exactly where he was going to.
After that, we had to take an uber to the station because we couldn't get any shuttle bus home at that time.
collecting 16 mm
11/04/19
I got up at 7 am because i had to go and collect the 16 mm in the morning. Hassan wants the 16 mm as soon as possible so he said that we had to give it to him in the morning so we can have it that afternoon.
It took me a while to get there, but at least i made it. Once i had the role i went back to the halls to get the lens cap that was arrived.
I gave the role to Hassan and we can pick it up around 5 pm today or tomorrow. And i gave the lens cap to him as well.
Tanya is going to bring the hard drive with her so we can save the 16 mm on there.
From Tom(sound) i got a first impression of what he made for us. I sended it to Tanya so she could listen to it and then we could discuss what we thought about it.
what we thought of the music was:
We liked the beginning a lot, but that once the flute starts it somehow doesn't sound right for our film. We loved the rising in the beginning, but the flute is really strong, so if that could be removed that would be good. Instead of the flute that something more subtle comes instead.
The Last Shoot
12/04/19
Today we have our last shoot. Which is exciting.
I got up earlier this morning to collect everything that they need for the microscoop. So i picked some yellow flowers, rocks, grass etc.
Because the room is really small, Just Tanya, Tom and Josephe were in there. I checked up with them once to see how it is going.
I went to Hassan as well to get the 16 mm images back. I went with Shail to an edit suite so we could check it as well as backing it up into the hard drives. When we were at Hassan, he told us that the footage was shaking and that probably the clip where the role needs to go to, wasn't closed, so the film could move freely in the Bolex. It was with every footage. So that was such a shame because that would mean we cannot use anything from the 16 mm in our film.
After we watched the footage, i sended a video to the group chat so everyone could see what happened. I went back to Tanya, Tom and Josephe to see how far they are. I already got some of the SD cards so i could start backing it up into the hard drives already.
When they were done filming i got all the sd cards. Backed everything up on both Shail's and mine harddrive. We were done.
It was a WRAPPPP :)
Everyone was happy that we did it so that was good.
Budget calculations
16/04/19
I did the calculations today for the film. We actually managed to stay in the budget, which is really great!
We ended the budget with: 298.25 pounds
so each we had to pay: 49.71 pounds. Which is really good.
I got from everyone the money and made sure that Shail got his money back as well. It was easier to transfer it to just one person than to different persons and everything.
So i was really happy about that.
Music 2
19/04/19
Tom sended another version of the music to me. I sended it to Tanya so she could listen to it as well. We called later to discuss it.
What we told Tom as feedback was:
We didn't like this version for our film. we thought it didn't suite the movie. We liked the first version, except the flute part, so if he could work on that one further that would really help. I also will send you a short video of the edit what we have so far, so it is easier for him to maybe make the music. And maybe he gets some inspiration for it.
He would work on it and he thought it would be great if he could get some examples.
I sended the examples to him a couple of days later, because that is when i received them.
Music 3
29/04/19
We got the last version because today is the deadline. If we want some last changes we could ask for it.
Tanya and I listened to it and we thought it was really good. Online the tone that we hear from sec 0:30 till 3:00 we thought was too long. So we asked if he could send a track without that tone in it and another track where those tones are shorter and have a clear fall at the end every time we hear the tone.
So he would do that which was great by tomorrow night if possible
Preparing installation
30/04/19
I got up early because i had to check some files on the hard drive for Shail. After i did that, i met with Tanya at 10:15 am. Tanya got the Key for studio 7 in the library. So we could start setting things up. I emailed Ed yesterday if we already could get the projectors and speakers, so we could start testing.
That was possible.
We first went by the film studio to see if we could get white set walls, for our installation. Because i forgot to book it, they weren't available anymore, which was my mistake. So, Tanya and i had to think of something else. We went to the 3D workshop and we saw the canvas cloths laying. We thought if we can hang those up with C-stands we can project that way. So we got the canvas cloths, Then we went to Sarah to ask for c-stands, which we got with sandbags, so they cannot fall down. Then we tried one out to see how it looks and this could work.
Because the edit wasn't finished yet completely, we are going to test it tomorrow and build everything up so it is ready for the assessment on Thursday.
I also got the last version of the music from Tom, which was perfect. Both Tanya and i loved it.
Building up the Installation
05/04/19
Tanya and i met at 11:30 at Shail, to look at the edit. We talked a little about it and then we went studio 7 to build up the installation and make sure the beamers are standing right.
When we put the canvasses on, we noticed that the canvasses weren't that straight. So i texted an fashion friend of my, to ask if she knew if they had ironers in school. Luckly they had that. So Tanya and me went to the ironers to iron the canvasses.
It was something to iron it and then try to get it back without to many wrinkles. Then we hanged them up again and we noticed that it actually got worse then before, So , that wasn't good. But we couldn't do anything about it anymore.
We made sure the beamers were standing straight and on the same level. So we were happy when we saw it. We wanted to test it with the movie, but it wasn't done completley yet. We are going to meet tomorrow morning to test it and look if there need to be changes or not.
Critical Evaluation
The group worked really well together. At all the meetings everyone was involved and could speak their mind about the idea and film. Which was great. The only thing that was an issue was coming late to the meetings, but luckily when we had shooting days most came on time.
For me being the producer was a challenge. Because i already knew stuff about producing and everyone thought i was organised, i became the producer. I think i did a good job, especially because this is the first time that i produced a film. What i thought was difficult was to ask people to help me with stuff or to ask them to do something for the film. I didn't want to bother them with it or wanted to be the annoying person who is asking people to get stuff. So that is something i probably have to work on still. As well that when the post-production came i didn't really knew what to do. Because that is something i don't know much about. I focused mostly on the sound part, as that was something that i was doing, as well because i was communicating with Tom.
The communication in the group was pretty good. Sometimes the communication wasn't great, but most of the time it was, which made the group work well. I tried to make sure the communication would be good, even though that is sometimes difficult because you cannot force people to talk with each other. I tried to keep everyone motivated and the energy level up. Which i hope worked.
I still learned a lot in these last months. I learned more about producing and how difficult that can be. But i also learned a lot from the others. How a drone work and how the camera works, especially the Bolex was really fun to work with. But also the sound was really interesting to do on set. I didn't knew much about it. It was a really big learning experience.
The film turned out really good. Unfortunately, we couldn't use the 16 mm in our movie because something went wrong. But overall i think the meaning of what we wanted to say has come across.
I think in overall we did do our work and we did do a good job, which resulted in this experimental film/installation.
